Blogging 201 – Audit my Brand

When today’s Blogging 201 assignment rolled out, I was tickled a wee bit pink as the ask was a journey I began last week:

… audit your brand — look at all the ways you communicate information about your blog, and make sure they’re consistent, focused, and say what you want them to say.

You see, I’m everywhere (Twitter, Facebook, here, there, Twitch, everywhere…) and I figured it was about time I grew up and speak from a more consistent voice.

Look pretty colours!

Whoops. I did it again.

What’s that you ask? You see I’ve always been a kid in a relative candy shop presented with so many fancy things, vivacious colours, superb sweets that I’d pour all my energy into consuming – or producing – something for a short while… and… then…

Lose interest.

BECAUSE THERE’S SOMETHING EVEN SHINIER OVER THERE!!

Yet something clicked a few weeks back that gave me pause to consider what it was I wanted out of Left Coast By Design. I wanted this blog to remain my personal podium to shout loudly about the topics that interested me, but also to be a place where all of my interests could get together and mingle. Gamers with Sports Fans. Political hacks with Foodies.

Glory be had by all!

Unfortunately, my own hyperactivity has helped me create not only one “candy store” to visit, but an entire street of candy stores. Each with its own name, brand and purpose. In fact, quite the opposite of my blog’s intent – though I’d also argue (with myself of course) that I didn’t really know what that was to begin with.

So enough already. I’ve already pencilled out what I want from this site, what my plans and goals (another post I need to write so I can publicly commit to it) happen to be, and how I can leverage this across all of my social media platforms. And as uniformity is key, you’ll notice the refresh take place over the next few weeks where colours and images and logos (oh my) will transform bit by bit! There’s nothing that will remain untouched – though it may remain unchanged.

If this brand audit was a three block journey, I’ve already put on my shoes and jacket. I’ve even opened the door and taken my first few breaths of this “fresh air.” But what I need from you is your support. I need you to remind me of where I’m going. I need you to tell me when I have my laces untied and I need you to tell me if my opinion doesn’t hold water.

Are you up for this challenge? Because I know I am.

  1. Oh boy do I recognise the “Oh look! Shinnnnnnnnyyyyyyyyyyyy” Syndrome. I suffer from it myself. There is no known cure, sorry to break that to you 😉 I the forlorn hope of softening the blow a little I have followed you here and on twitter 😛

  2. I call it the “squirrel!” syndrome… tangential to a fault, that’s me! All us artsy fartsy types are like this. It is our normal, I think… 🙂 I look forward to discovering where this blank slate takes you…

  3. I’m so glad I stumbled on your blog. I was inspired to create a collage of examples regarding the Blogging 201 assignments AND included you! Hopefully this will send more support your way. Check out the post and the other blogs when you can. Thanks!
